[Original Post 5 January 2011]

The idea for a regular meetup of social change agents/architects/artists came about as the concept for Doing Something Good unfolded mid-2010, no doubt inspired by Loretta Rae‘s Creative Instigators#samehuman dinners and a bunch of other great events and meetups I’d been to.

After a few casual get togethers toward the end of last year, I’m excited to announce the inaugural Social Change Collaboratory Meetup in Melbourne (with SCC Meetups a distinct possibility in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Adelaide and Perth in the coming months).

The first Meetup is to get the ball rolling.

As with Doing Something Good, I want this to be yours (even if you can’t be there in person). My part is to bring us together online, find somewhere for us to connect face-to-face, and provide opportunities (platforms, speakers and activities) to share knowledge, experience and insight. As a free agent I’m also looking forward to facilitating a few collaborative projects during the year and creating opportunities for us all to do something good together. 🙂

On Wednesday 12 January, we’ll be discussing what you’d like from the Social Change Collaboratory and what you believe we can make it. That, and to start getting to know each other (if you like, you could get started by introducing yourself to other collaborartists here).

Having only just finished putting the final touches on the Meetup profile, I’m pretty excited at the number of people interested in being part of the Social Change Collaboratory already – and loving Meetup. 😉

There’s a strong feeling around that this year is going to be a cracker year for social innovation and social entrepreneurship in Australia. I’m keen to help you make the most of it and facilitate the development of social change projects with real impact. However you think Doing Something Good and the Social Change Collaboratory can help you do that, please let me know.

I hope you’ll join us.
